¡HICA! Unveils Comprehensive Data Dashboard for Enhanced Insights on Hispanic and Latino Communities in Alabama
Birmingham, AL - September 28, 2023 - The Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!) is excited to announce the launch of a new data dashboard, created in a collaborative effort with the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA). This innovative and interactive data visualization tool is designed to shed light on the critical contributions, challenges, and growth of the Hispanic and Latino communities in Alabama and was made possible with the support of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.
¡HICA! is happy to announce that Karin Ingram Park will be joining our team as our new Grants Director! She brings with her a wealth of experience and will provide valuable leadership to the organization.
Birmingham, AL (January 30,2023 ) - The National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB) recently announced that Melissa Rodriguez has been named a 2023 NALCAB Pete Garcia Community Economic Development fellow. Melissa currently serves as a Lending Specialist for Camino Loan Fund at ¡HICA!.
The Housing Counselor/ Financial Coach works collaboratively with the Community Economic Development Team to facilitate and support the economic integration of Hispanic families through services specifically aimed at advancing their financial capabilities, achieving housing and financial stability, and building wealth.
¡HICA! announce 6 business and nonprofit leaders to ¡HICA!’s Board of Directors. These leaders are bonded by a commitment to fairness, equity, and community building.

The Executive Assistant (EA) supports the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to further ¡HICA!’s mission. The position requires someone who is organized, focused, intelligent, discreet, creative, and enjoys working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment that is results driven and community oriented. The EA prioritizes competing interests, stays focused, handles matters expeditiously, proactively, and follows through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures. They work collaboratively with all members of the leadership team.
The Financial Coach will be responsible for working with low- and moderate- income households, focusing predominantly on the Latino community to increase financial capability education. ¡HICA!’s Financial Capability model includes workshops and one-on-one coaching specifically relating to safe banking and DISC (Debt, Income, Savings & Credit). This position will work closely with the Housing Counselor to provide financial capability services to families interested in becoming homeowners, as well as with the Community Economic Development program, Camino and all other ¡HICA!’s programs and staff.

Nayeli’s history and passion for helping others led her to the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!), a community development and advocacy organization that champions economic equality, civic engagement and social justice for Latinx and immigrant families in Alabama.
Camino, a wholly owned LLC of ¡HICA!, seeks a qualified Loan Officer that will facilitate the lending process from start to finish, including origination, underwriting, closing, and ongoing servicing for existing and new clients for Camino’s growing small business portfolio. Candidates will have demonstrated the ability to service small business loans, including managing collections, and loan workouts.

Read MoreThe Family and Women’s Advocate is responsible for assessing needs, coordinating action plans, and advocating for services for program participants to meet the needs and goals of their families. The Advocate provides extensive support to participants in crisis and leads the Women Empowerment Group within the Strong Families Program. The Advocate works with Latina women to increase knowledge and skills to become leaders and facilitates educational workshops in a safe space conducive to learning, self-expression, and higher self-esteem. The advocate also helps survivors of crime overcome trauma.

Birmingham, AL– On Wednesday, October 21, The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) held a virtual signing event for a Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) with the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!). Since 2013 ¡HICA! has helped Latino small business owners start and grow their business, and they have also provided technical support for those businesses. As the only organization in Alabama providing this type of support to the Latino community, this partnership with SBA will provide an opportunity to expand their reach.
