This program removes barriers for low-income immigrants seeking to apply for citizenship or adjust their immigration status. ¡HICA!’s lawyer assists families through consultations,   assistance filling out applications, and coordination with government agencies. The program also works with lawyers in the community to provide pro bono legal screenings for eligible immigrants across the state.

Free Citizenship/Civics Class

This summer, ¡HICA! is happy to present a free Citizenship/Civics course in partnership with volunteer Cumberland law students.  The course is open to anyone wanting to prepare for the US-CIS naturalization test. The class covers basic civics, American History, and some facts on law and government.  It covers a broad array of topics that are essential for newcomers to know and understand to be productive members of American society.  For more information, contact Michelle Ortiz at 205.942.5505 or mortiz1@samford.edu.   The class will begin July 8th and there is open enrollment.
