Trainings & Workshops

¡HICA! conducts trainings on ‘Know Your Rights’ for the Latino community and provide workshops on Latino cultural competency for local community organizations.  To request a workshop or training for your organization, church or workplace, contact Caitlin (205.942.5505).
 
Hispanic Advisory Council

Active community members meet regularly to discuss community issues and guide outreach and organizing efforts.

¡Conversemos!

This language exchange program is designed for English and Spanish learners who are interested in improving their conversational skills.  Conversation partners will be matched according to interests, schedule, and geography.

Cost is $25 per 12-week session ($15 for ¡HICA! members).

Fall 2010 Session will run 12 weeks from the week of August 30 through week of November 15 with orientation on Saturday, August 28 and mid-semester gathering during the week of October 4.  For more information and to register for the Fall 2010 Session, contact: Caitlin Sandley, csandley@hispanicinterest.org, 205.942.5505.
 
 
Membership Program

Members form a grassroots base of support for our programs and services. Become a member with a $15 minimum donation and receive:
  • A quarterly bilingual newsletter. This bilingual newsletter is a great way to learn Spanish!
  • Special invitations to an Annual Membership Convening and other social events sponsored by ¡HICA!
  • Annoucements with Advocacy Alerts to defend immigrants’ rights and upcoming community events.
