¡HICA! and Comprehensive Immigration Reform
The Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!), the largest independent, non-profit agency serving Alabama’s Hispanic community, urges the speedy enactment of comprehensive immigration reform that will provide both a reasonable, affordable path to legalization and law enforcement measures that strengthen and protect communities while upholding justice and safety. In line with its commitment to strengthening families and educating communities, ¡HICA! strongly believes that family unity and educational opportunity should be key components of a comprehensive immigration reform bill. As the dialogue around immigration reform continues on national and local levels, ¡HICA! calls for respect and celebration of the contributions of immigrants in our communities. ¡HICA! supports the following principles set forth by the National Council of La Raza for comprehensive immigration reform:
Following the guidance of Alabama’s Hispanic community, ¡HICA! will collaborate with its local, regional and national partners to advocate for a comprehensive immigration reform package that meets the community’s needs. ¡HICA! is a member of: The Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice The Southeast Immigrant Rights Network National Council of La Raza Want to be an advocate for immigration reform? --Familiarize yourself with proposed legislation: H.R. 4321: Comprehensive Immigration Reform ASAP Act of 2009 and an expected Senate bill from Senators Schumer (D-NY) and Graham (R-SC) --Become a member of ¡HICA! to stay in the loop about our advocacy efforts --Join the Campaign to Reform Immigration for America! --Organize a panel discussion or town hall meeting at your church, community center, or school Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice Visit ACIJ's website Join ACIJ on Facebook to get advocacy updates and learn about upcoming meetings!
